BRITISH VELVET GLASS EYES LENCI TYPE DOLL CHAD VALLEY OR FARNELL

RARE BRITISH VELVET GLASS EYES LENCI TYPE DOLL

CHAD VALLEY FARNELL OR WELLINGS 30s

From my private collection of antique and vintage dolls a very hard to find British doll, wearing what I believe to be a Dutch custom adorned with a lovely antique organza and lace apron. The body is stuffed and made of velvet and felt, moulded head shows lovely bleu glass inset eyes and hand painted features, and has blonde mohair braids. This cloth doll has no label (usually tagged under the feet) but was surely made in Great Britain by one of the well known British factories, more likely Chad Valley which used to have a line of glass eyed dolls in the 1920-30 years, or she may be attributed to Nora Wellings or Farnell's Alpha Toys (for the body construction and outfit), that also produced some cloth felt velvet dolls with glass eyes. I'm sure that an expert collector would recognize the exact origin.

Size: the girl is approx 13 in (32 cm) high.

Origin: made in England, in the early 30s.

Condition: good played with, in used condition with some dust and wear as shown in photos (see face), but no holes or major damage.

Value point: hard to find model.

Hello from Australia.
Loved your site.
I think she is a Nora Wellings.
Nora started out as a designer for Chad Valley before she started her own business.

Hi Vicki, thanks for your interest in my dolls. I think she may be an unusual and early Nora Wellings but I'm not quite sure, as I saw a quite similar doll (same outfit) produced by Farnell's Alpha Toys. Unfortunately the tag under the foot is missing...Hope to see you in my followers. Let's keep in touch!
